Shanghai reopens with malls seeing shopping rush

Shanghai has formally ended its two-month citywide lockdown, cautiously allowing 2.67 million businesses from corner shops to global manufacturers to resume operations after bringing the recent COVID-19 outbreak under control. Shopping centres and restaurants have also reopened for business, with customers ready to spend again. More than 800 stores have resumed business at 12 malls owned by Hong Kong developers including Swire Properties, Sun Hung Kai Properties, Kerry Properties and Hang Lung Properties, with about 200 stores reopening at Swire Properties' Taikoo Li Qiantan shopping complex in Pudong, and more than 150 stores reopening at HKRI Taikoo Hui in Puxi. Long queues were also seen at luxury brands at various malls.
