Swire Properties deeply integrated with sustainable development

Elizabeth Kok, Director & Senior Advisor of Swire Properties, shared that sustainable development (SD) has been deeply integrated into the Company's DNA. I will continue its SD efforts with placemaking at the centre, supported by the four pillars of People, Partners, Performance (Environment) and Performance (Economic).

Kok shared that sustainable measures have been incorporated throughout the building life cycle, from planning and design to operation. For example, One Taikoo Place was the first commercial building in Hong Kong to install a biodiesel waste-to-energy tri-generation system, along with green features including a combined green roof and solar PV system. In 2018, the building became the first commercial building in Asia and office building in Hong Kong to receive the Platinum certification from WELL Building Standard, along with BEAM Plus and LEED certifications.

Kok also shared that from stakeholders such as tenants, government departments and contractors is crucial to achieve SD goals. Last August, the Company launched the "Green Performance Pledge" pilot, which is built on the premise of a green lease and covers the entire tenancy cycle in the core areas of fit-out and operation. To date, 30 office tenants have signed up, together representing approximately 20% of occupied lettable floor area from the Company's Hong Kong office portfolio. The next target is to reach 50% by 2025.

Other tenant initiatives include "Green Kitchen" that targets F&B tenants and "Smart Waste Reduction Programme" that encourages participating tenants to reduce and recycle waste with the help of real-time data.
