Online media outlet HK01 ran an investigative report on the Government's lease of One Pacific Place for a new Former Chief Executive's Office. The report cited information provided by the Administration Wing, which indicated the unit is around 2,874 sq ft (267 sqm) in size, with a lease term of three years. The Government stated that the net monthly rental is HKD377,000, and the renovation cost is about HKD8.7 million. The Government has not revealed other expenses, such as management and miscellaneous fees, as well as how many former CEs the office is planned to accommodate.

The Administration Wing said taking into consideration various factors including the status of the former Chief Executive, location, accessibility, convenience and security, it decided to set up an office in either Central or Admiralty. It said One Pacific Place fits the size requirement for the Former Chief Executive's Office, and "its rental level is reasonable". It added that the Architectural Services Department is responsible for the renovation and the Police Force has given advice on security arrangement. It added that the Government would consider relocating the Former Chief Executive's Office back to a Government property, depending on the availability of another suitable premises and the circumstances in the future.
