Large-scale shopping malls going green with all-around transformation

Shopping malls are exploring new possibilities of “green commerce” through all-arounded transformation. In February 2022, after winning the LEED Gold certification, Taikoo Li Qiantan became the world's first shopping mall to receive a WELL Core Platinum certification. Taikoo Li Qiantan adopts an open-plan architectural design and has a lot of natural elements built into its landscape design. It not only connects retail stores with large-scale greenbelts, waterscapes and artworks, but also displays many works by internationally-acclaimed artists for public appreciation.

The introduction of forward-looking and sustainable brands is also an important way to promote “green consumption”. In April 2019, Allbirds – a sustainable shoes brand from the US – opened its first Asian store at HKRI Taikoo Hui, providing another option for shoppers looking for green consumption options.

The public has also been encouraged to participate in public welfare activities and embrace the arts. Since 2018, HKRI Taikoo Hui has brought the “Play Me, I'm Yours” public welfare piano activity to Shanghai. Meanwhile, HKRI Taikoo Hui teamed up with Yicai's female public welfare program "Be Pink" to call on the society to pay more attention to female and gender equality through thematic exhibitions and salons.
