Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu's 2022 sustainable development

Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu's sustainable development efforts and practices can be seen from the angles of being an eco-friendly mall as well as a placemaking and people-centric operation.

Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu has forward-looking insights that enables it to become an eco-friendly mall. In 2019, the project gained LEED EBOM v4.1 Platinum certification, winning the recognition of the world's most authoritative green building certification organisation. With an open plan, Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu faces more difficulties in energy conservation and carbon emission reduction. To develop targeted improvement solutions, Swire Properties and Tsinghua University set up the Joint Research Centre for Building Energy Efficiency and Sustainability in 2019 and successfully became one of Sichuan's first entities to accomplish “net-zero carbon” in electricity consumption in 2020. Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu also launched the Green Kitchen Initiative, with five food and beverage tenants receiving the “Green Kitchen” certification.

In terms of placemaking and people-centric operation, Swire Properties' “localization” efforts had begun even before the opening of the project. In 2013, Swire Properties and China Children and Teenagers' Fund jointly launched the Zhuchuang Community Centre – a rural revitalisation programme that, to brings humanistic care to local people. When Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu began trial operation in 2014, it presented an unprecedented commercial space in China where consumers could enjoy a pleasant view from almost any spot. The project's excellent economic performance has greatly enhanced Chengdu's economic resilience and created its own business circle.

Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu has been actively exploring ways to integrate sustainable development with the creation of urban public spaces in cultural and artistic activities. The project is accomplished in terms of its distinguishing “hardware”— such as architecture and technology — and “software”– such as consumer experience, tenants service and employees development.
