Developers hope to work with tenants to reduce carbon emissions

During a panel discussing the future of the property sector at the Asian Financial Forum 2022, Swire Properties' Director and Senior Advisor Elizabeth Kok said the future of properties should focus on "green, low-carbon and wellness". The Company hopes to reduce waste through a circular economy and is working with tenants to achieve such through waste recycling and diversion, as tenants are responsible for 90% of the waste generated in Swire Properties' buildings. Commenting on the pandemic's impact on property development, Kok said the pandemic reflects the important role developers play in the community and developers can help alleviate the challenges it poses, from increased tenant communication to strengthening the Company's ESG investment and management.
