Following a four-year protective expropriation and historical restoration, ZHANGYUAN West Zone officially opened on 1 December 2022. The Shikumen compound has become more thriving and vibrant, adding a new chapter to urban regeneration and injecting richness into urban life. During the Chinese New Year holiday, the West Zone experienced an average daily footfall of over 15,000, with a peak of 29,500 visitors on 26 January 2023. With the restoration of its public spaced, ZHANGYUAN has once again become an accessible destination where everyone can freely immerse themselves and engage with surroundings. Walking at ZHANGYUAN, people can appreciate the architecture of the historical site.

Currently, the horizontal translation of historical buildings at ZHANGYUAN East Zone is progressing rapidly. As part of the protective development, the East Zone plans to add 80,000 sqm of underground space as well as undertake the horizontal translation and underpinning of 25 buildings, of which three have been completed. In addition, the East Zone will be connected to surrounding buildings, malls and blocks through the construction of a three-storey underground space.

In 2023, ZHANGYUAN urban regeneration project will focus on upgrading the brand mix and improving the quality of the space. It will launch more premieres and exhibitions, making the space even more welcoming and dynamic to showcase the city's charm.
