Driving sustainability performance through tenant engagement
Don Taylor, Director, Office, highlighted the importance of tenant collaboration in achieving the goal of becoming the leading sustainable development performer in the industry globally by 2030. To optimise tenants’ environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) performance, the Company has implemented a wide range of sustainability initiatives. One such initiative is the Green Performance Pledge, which has seen over 400,000 sq ft of tenanted areas complete an energy audit, resulting in significant improvements in water consumption reduction and waste diversion.
Taylor also mentioned the Company’s commitment to invest USD100 million annually in upgrading equipment and ensuring energy efficiency throughout its property portfolio. With enhanced ESG performance and obtaining certifications, the developments help tenants meet their sustainability goals while also helping to retain them and maintain high occupancy rates.
In 2017, the Company introduced the Green Kitchen Initiative for food and beverage tenants in its retail portfolios. To date, a total of 104 tenants from Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland have participated. Fiona Shiu, Director, TSSD & Facilities Management, noted that the increasing number of participants reflects tenants’ growing emphasis on sustainability and their understanding of the benefits the initiative brings to their daily operations.
