Swire Properties' Placemaking strategy for long-term development
May Lam-Kobayashi, Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Swire Properties, said developers must prioritise the long-term development of all facets, which includes a placemaking strategy that benefits the developer and its clients, as well as the entire community. Placemaking encompasses not only the "hardware", such as building and design quality, but also the "software" that fosters community connections.
Swire Properties began injecting art into the community in the 1970s at the Taikoo Shing residential development. The Company's efforts to integrate arts and culture into everyday life included the opening of venues like ArtisTree and the organisation of events such as the White Christmas Street Fair, offering the platform to connect and engage with the office and wider communities.
Priscilla Li, General Manager, Taikoo Place, said digital connectivity, resilience, innovation and sustainable development have always been crucial elements in the workspaces that the Company creates. She cited that One Taikoo Place and Two Taikoo Place are equipped with waste-to-energy trigeneration systems, solar PV panels and wind turbines for more efficient energy use. The renewable energy generated is equivalent to about 6% of the energy consumption of the buildings' public spaces.
To engage Taikoo Place's office community, the Company offers Taikoo Social, a mobile app specially designed for tenants and office workers. This app provides access to exclusive offers and events. Through innovative technology, Swire Properties aims to enhance the productivity and wellbeing of tenants and the office community.
