Swire Properties advocates TNFD framework for natural loss disclosures
The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) announced its final recommendation of 14 disclosures that align with the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. This framework is established for companies to report their exposure to nature loss and will serve as a catalyst for assessing and managing related risks.
Patrick Ho, Deputy Head, Sustainable Development at Swire Properties, is one of the 40 taskforce members involved in shaping the TNFD framework and piloting its implementation. He emphasised the relevance of the framework to Hong Kong, where 40% of the landmass is designated as country parks and protected areas. Ho noted that as Hong Kong continues to develop, challenges such as urbanisation, population growth, increased waste generation and rising economic activities all require further importation of natural resources. This has resulted in various direct and indirect impacts and risks related to nature that companies must navigate and address. Implementing nature-inclusive building designs, adopting nature-based solutions for flood mitigation and utilising recycled building materials can all have positive effects on local biodiversity, building users and the wider community.
