Swire Properties and industry leaders champion retrofitting for greener buildings
The Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) launches the HKGBC Retrofitting Guidebook to support and encourage the industry to implement retrofitting for higher energy efficiency in existing buildings. Swire Properties, along with other industry representatives from developers, property management companies, the Government and various sectors, shared in the guidebook their successful experiences in conducting retrofitting projects.
Raymond Yau, General Manager, Technical Services and Sustainable Development, Swire Properties, shared that in 2015, the Company conducted a pilot project on one of the office floors at Dorset House in Taikoo Place. The objective was to replace the traditional belt-driven blower fan with an electronically commutated plug fan to test its energy efficiency. The test yielded successful results, prompting the replacement of 56 cabinet fans at Two Pacific Place in 2017, resulting in an approximately 30% reduction in electricity consumption. The project was later extended to office buildings and shopping malls in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland.
